About the conservator

Margaret Sawczuk began her professional journey in art conservation in 1995 in Kraków, Poland. Immersed in the city’s rich atmosphere of Baroque and Renaissance art, she established her first conservation studio shortly after earning her Master’s degree in Art Conservation from the Faculty of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków.
In Europe, she carried out numerous conservation projects on wooden polychromed sculptures and altarpieces in Polish churches, as well as Baroque wall paintings and frescoes in Austrian monasteries and cloisters — notably in the historic villages of Heiligenkreutz and Gaaden, where she worked for many years.
Since 2007, Margaret has continued her conservation practice in the United States, focusing on the preservation of paintings, sculptures, and ceramics, and combining traditional European craftsmanship with a deep respect for the integrity and history of each work of art.
